Finally managed to see it. Need to see it again, not only because it deserves it but because I'm sure there were things I missed through tiredness.

I am not as up with TOS or the movies as with any of the other series, so I didn't really pick up on the non-canon stuff, but I did wonder if I had totally been unaware about
Spoiler
it will be interesting to see where they boldly go with it all.

I did so enjoy Karl as Bones. The whole cast did fit their characters well I thought. I did know about Chris Hemsworth as George Kirk, from one of the morning programs doing an interview with him before it opened. Can't say he'd caught my eye before Luna, but it is always great to see an Aussie doing well.
Spoiler

Can't think now what other thoughts I had at the time. Must see it again, eh?

No problem... I just thought I'd stick the tags in there for continuity sake... Not sure if anyone who frequents this threads hasn't seen the film yet, but, better safe than sorry.

Hehe, indeed. Would have been funny if Uhura spoke, and Anna Maria was on-screen!

Going to see it tonight with some friends for the first time. I hope its good! I didn't read most of the thread to avoid spoilers but seems as if you guys liked it.

EDIT: What a great movie! But as I'm probably the only person left on the planet that hadn't seen it...Anyway, if anyone hasn't, you should. I didn't know anything about the casting so I was surprised to find Urban in it. Also didn't realize until this morning that Eric Bana was in it! I'm so behind but I really wasn't planning on seeing it b/c SciFi is not my thing. Chris Pine was fabulous! I won't go on and on. This summer is going to be great for movies! Can't wait to see Public Enemies, Harry Potter and hopefully The Time Traveler's wife is still premiering in August (great book if you haven't read it).

OK, it took me a while to figure out just what that was...it's Zachary, no it's Chris...no wait... CaribbeanDreamin, glad you liked it too! And yes, The Time Traveler's Wife is still scheduled to come out in August, let's hope they don't push it back again!

A poster from the chrispinenetwrk named yvaine28 put in this link to the Yorkshire Post that I thought was intereting. The one and only Patrick Stewart was interviewed and asked about what he thought of the new Star Trek...

Quote:
"I loved it. I absolutely loved it," he proclaims. "It was a very, very odd experience to be in the cinema watching a new Star Trek movie that I wasn't in. Not only that, but with the exception of Leonard Nimoy I didn't know any of the cast... but, it's Star Trek. They've taken some quite innovative decisions but it's absolutely essential, right down the middle Star Trek. I got a great kick out of it."

He also says of Chris Pine, the young actor playing Captain Kirk: "He's brilliant. He is charming, truthful, funny and utterly delightful."
Love Patrick Stewart!!! I also happen to think Chris Pine is utterly delightful. Perhaps not in the same way Patrick does.

sorry for double posting, but I had to bump this thread with this "insane-fan" stuff :

according to some conceptual art from the movie, Kirk´s bike is A DUCATI! (winks at Orlando)

As I mention in the Karl Urban pretty pics thread, my sister Lavenda got to see Karl Urban on Saturday. During his talk he mentioned a few things about Star Trek that I thought folks here might like to hear about. These aren't his exact words of course, but at least the general gist of what he was saying.

* Trek sequel is looking at starting filming mid to late next year.
* JJ and Peter are similar directors, not just for being open to input from
actors, but the way they move the camera and stuff.
* Never laughed so much on a set as he did on Trek, one time JJ even walked
out on them (he told them he'd be back in 10 once they had collected
themselves) because they were blowing every take by laughing. He thought Zac Quinto was highly intelligent "IQ must be off the scale" but also a bit of a
practical joker, once time coming up to JJ as he was talking, pretending to
sneeze and squirting a mist bottle into JJ's mouth at the same time!
* Thought it was cool that the some fans got to see the new Trek movie
before the world premiere.
* He was there as part of thanks for Australia getting behind the movie so
much and helping to ensure that they made more (gave the impression that it
wasn't just a thanks from him but TPTB)
* he mentioned how at some Trek thing Leonard Nimoy called him over to
introduce him to his wife, and his wife saying that when Leonard saw Karl's
intro on screen he cried - someone called out something about it being that
bad, Karl laughed but said how for someone who had worked with DeForrest and that to be so reminded of him by Karl's performance meant he must've got it right and was the biggest compliment he could have been paid.
* after initially thinking he'd blown any chance of a role in Trek from his
first interview with TPTB (because he asked what the story was, they
couldn't tell him and not much more was said), then to go back and test for
Bones, and that half way through he could hear someone laughing, saw it was
JJ and thought "oh good he's getting it, liking it" - and then couldn't
remember any more of the lines! But he got himself together, finished it JJ
said stuff like "that's so it" and within 2 hours the tape of Karl's
performance had done the rounds of Paramount and he had the job. He then
went and got loaded

Thanks Avs, that's fab to know, love behind the scenes stories like that. Doesn't surprise me re: Zach's IQ, he comes across as highly intelligent, reckon he'd be great to have a conversation with. Loved the spray bottle sneeze story - very clever! Thanks to your sis for that!

thank you, Avs, this is priceless!

I love that part when he talks about Leonard Nimoy, and how he remembered Deforest Kelley after Karls´s performance as McCoy. Very touching.

Thank you Avs!! I'd heard Zachary Quinto was a bit of a jokester, that bit with the spray bottle sounds funny as hell! "went and got loaded"... A fitting reaction!
