Avalon - I have just discovered through that website that there's a bookshop that sells some of those Kelly books right opposite my local cinema where I go every week... Guess where I'm going tomorrow?

It's the school holidays so I have had extra time on my hands and have been doing some research...

I found this website that has photographs and interesting links, concentrating on the Glenrowan siege, including eyewitness accounts.

Thanks Gem- a load there...

Joe- 'When 16 years of age he was in trouble, and from the first appears to have developed vicious and cruel propensities' hmmm

some of that is just bizarre! you see 'the Wiggles visit Glenrown'? or the Fancy dress parade in Ned Kelly armour? A game where you get to be Ned or McIntyre and see who escapes?

.......

some interesting kids books though and a real good potted history thing-

Oh, didn't see that quote about Joe... On the whole I think the information on this site is more accurate than most. Some of the stuff is a bit 'quirky' I'll admit - that carriage for example. And I believe that's a picture of Joe's brother Patrick and Ned looks a bit strange too...

As for the Wiggles - well they're about as famous as Ned Kelly so stands to reason they would have visited Glenrowan!

There's also a link for The Benalla Museum where they have Ned's green sash on display.

EDIT: I just found the excellent Ian Jones audio clips! Here you can listen to Ian Jones talking about the siege while walking around the actual site in Glenrowan and bits from a radio interview plus a couple of other clips like the Ned talkback radio in 1879...

There are quite a few publications floating around with Paddy's photo as Joe's, not everyone is quite as meticulous and thorough with their research as we are huh? Admittedly Paddy and Joe did look alike, apparently taking advantage of the similarity to trick the police too.

I noticed that Eureka Smith link didn't work anymore, looked him up out of curiosity, here . Some more quirkiness...

Re: that picture of Joe on the Glenrowan1880 website, I e-mailed Dave and he has posted a reply on his site:

Quote:
Thanks Airi, glad you liked 1880.
The picture you refer to of Joe is in fact from a painting/sketch of him. It was from a book I have but I cannot put my hands on it right now sorry. It was more your American Western style painting of the Kelly gang. (the carriage one) If you refer to the one on the Joe page, that is from an artist named Morony. I have used his painting of the gang for my images of Joe & Steve.

Thanks for dropping by, regards Dave.

wasn't quite sure where to put this...

Knightmusic
is a link to a myspace thing (there was a link on Iron Outlaw but I couldn't work out how to copy that..duh) if you look in the box on the right there is a song called Ned Kelly
ahem...well lets just say it isn't quite my sort of thing, indeed I had to turn it off halfway through, but others may dig the groove, man...or not.

Thanks, Candiss. I hadn't watched that for a while - his hands...

Kind of sounds like he's winging it a bit there!

Thanks nuit. Really like the "down under" one.

Mick Jagger - well I listened to it while reading the first page of comments but that's all I could take.
