Believe me ... oogling at hires of the Pretty ... don't train ... at all.
Quite the contrary!

ETA: Babyjane, I see you've edited your first post in this thread. Actually, the 'Contractor' had a total different plot then the one all the websites described. It was just a mix up of plays from the same writer which accidently premiered in the same year (1969)
And it's not "In Celebrity" like you cited, but "In Celebration" ... according to your quotes.

Let's hope we get some kind of official announcement from Orlando or his people soon.

Im very envious of all of you in London that would be able to watch him acting on stage, but Im also very happy for this news, he has expressed for a while that he wanted to do some theater again so good for him, even though for the rest of as that wont get a new movie to watch him for a while.

I hope that all of you that have the chance to watch him will give us some descriptions and reviews of his performances on stage.

If it opens in July that means he should be in london now rehearsing especially as he has got to do publicity for POTC 3 later this month too. 2 months technically is plenty of time to put on a production depending on the type of theatre etc but I'm thinking it's gotta be later than July.
But I don't want to jinx it because as of next week I will be living closer to London.

DAMNIT!

I think that is wonderful, honestly, since Orlando had said he was interested in doing some theater. I just hope he doesn't spend years doing that rather than movies.

Thanks Babyjane!

Fantastic news! So exciting! I hope he does splendid.

Ha! My favourite type of man! Oh, if he plays that character... Regardless, good for him , although I'm so gutted I probably won't be able to see this. Break a leg, OB!

Porn script ... isn't that an oxymoron?

Anyway, this is really fantastic news. I hope he shines on stage so that all the naysayers will shut their traps. Good luck, Orlando.

Well, you can all throw tomatoes at me but I really don't know what to think about this news. Don't get me wrong, I'm really happy for Orlando because that's what he wanted but I'm afraid this means the end of his cinematografic career. Yes, he'll probably improve his acting skills, however I think he's a good actor, but, who, apart from those who live in England or have the opportunity to go to London, will see this ? If he stays away from cinema too long, (this probably means he won't be seen on the screen during, at least, 4 or 5 years !) fans will forget him, Hollywood will forget him (that's maybe what he wants) and director's will probably forget him too.
Sorry, for saying this but that's what I think !

You lucky lucky people that live in Europe...this sounds really interesting.

I just hope that Orlando is doing what makes him happy, if things get quiet for him for a while well that may be what he wants...who knows, I just hope that I win the lottery so that I can get to see it - you up for company Nuit??

Oh my...so far we are talking about ONE play (and not even confirmed by him/his team yet)! It's not like he's not going to do a movie next year or the year after .

Nobody knows what his future career is going to be like but personnally I think that a break from Hollywood can only do good to him. Look at Di Caprio, disappearing after "Titanic" was the best thing he has ever done. He came back and is no longer considered as "Hollywood's hearthrob who can't act". People have moved on. I think that's what should happen with OB, at least people would look at him as an ACTOR and nothing else (ok, I'm obviously not talking about us here who see the actor but the man as well )

I doubt a play which will probably run for a few weeks or months will keep him away from cinema for 4 or 5 years. But in regards to Orlando's career I think he should follow the words of his friend and former co-star Jonathan Rhys-Davies:
Quote:
"There's something dangerous in overly considering your fans," he said. "Not to deny my fans, but I certainly do what I do for myself and because I'm passionate about films and filmmaking and want to continue to challenge myself as an actor. ... I think if I were to overly consider the fanbase, it may be slightly stifling."
I hope Orlando does well and ignore the critics, good or bad they're rarely useful.

If it's true how Cool for him!! I'll be so happy for him because he's been talking about doing this for so long. It'd be great if he gets to do it.

Thanks for the update BabyJane!

Actually providing the play doesn't get panned by the critics this is a seriously good career move.

Hollywood hold actors who go on stage, instead of doing the latest blockbuster, in high regard, and takes them seriously as actors.

I don't think this will end his film career, it will enhance it if anything! Lets face it, and Hollywood understand it too.."pretty boy hearthrobs" don't do serious London/New york theatre, proper actors do.

This is a passport to good film offers and serious acting parts, look at the way Jude Law is regarded in Hollywood for doing stage work between films, Sean Penn did something similar when he was around 30 going off to the New York stage. There are many actors who have taken to the theatre between films and in almost every case it has enhanced their long term film career.

Lots and lots of actors appear on stage. Nicole Kidman did the Blue Room, Jake Gyllenhaal did Time of Our Lives (or something like that), Kevin Spacey does stage all the time.

You remember all those people, right? :)

I agree that it is a good move if it all works out well. And probably a much needed break from Hollywood.

So we all meet in London then?

As soon as I know a date and where I can get a ticket the next plane will bring me to London. Actually I love living in my town right now because of the cheap flights from here to London and back. Yes! When Orlando's on stage I'm going to be there!
