One Year: POTC Complete story (G) and sequel Father and Son

Here I am with another short story, there is a sequel to this and if you want I can post. Let me know if you want the sequel. Here it is.

Title: One Year
Author: Pirate-x-Girls
Disclaimer: All characters and ideas belong to Disney
Rating: General
Category: Set Post AWE
Characters: Elizabeth, Will, Tai Haung, and James Turner
Genre: Romance
Summary: It’s been one year since Will has become Captain, Elizabeth wants to see him. Anyway she can.

Elizabeth still felt the familiar sense of dread and had to repress a shiver when she saw the Flying Dutchman rise up from the water. Even though she now knew there was nothing to fear from the ship that ferried the dead she still couldn’t help but feel a bit apprehensive about what lay ahead. She was standing on the deck of the Empress, which was bobbing up and down in the waves, next to them was the wreckage of another ship, the main half was torn and pieces of debris floated in the water. All around the ship, the crew clung to whatever they could, many were nearing deaths door and Elizabeth wished that she could help. But there was someone here to do that already.

Elizabeth watched in silence as the Dutchman rose and came to a halt, from her position she couldn’t see what was happening on deck. Her heart ached to run and call his name, but she resisted. Instead she turned her thoughts to their son who lay in his crib asleep in her cabin. A year old and growing fast. Movement on the other ship distracted her from her thoughts. Men on the ship had noticed the presence of the death ship and were trying frantically to move and save themselves, none of them knew that the captain of the ship was different.

Before any of them could move very far a figure materialised on the deck of the ship. Elizabeth’s breath caught in her throat, she recognised him immediately. Her heart ached and her pulse raced as she watched him stride across the deck towards the nearest man. He knelt down and took the mans hand, the man looked up and he tried to crawl away. Will held him in place and bent down, he whispered in the mans ear. The man relaxed and slumped down, Will watched him for a moment before straightening up and closing the dead man’s eyes.

As if he knew that he was being watched he turned and looked straight into her eyes. Shock flitted across his face and he took a step back. She smiled and took a step forward. He held up his hand and stopped her with shake of his head. She stopped and watched as he strode away to deal with the rest of the men.

Only when he had finished helping the men did he turn his attention to her. One minute he was on the other ship and a second later he materialised in front of her. She couldn’t help the gasp that escaped her and took an involuntary step backward. He must have seen the look of fear on her face because his features softened and he spread his hands out.
“It’s me,” he whispered. Taking deep breaths she stepped forward and hands shaking placed one of her hands on his cheek. The feeling of his warm skin beneath her hand snapped her out of her fear and she crushed him to her. Head buried in his chest. His arms snaked around her and hugged her close. She looked up into his eyes and kissed him. He leaned into the kiss. Her hand found its way into his shirt and rested above the scar. She broke the kiss when she realised the emptiness of his chest. She looked up at him and her eyes filled with tears. As a tear slid down her cheek he brought his hand up and with one finger wiped it away. He smiled and stroked her cheek.
“I haven’t changed.” He said, almost anxiously. She smiled and hugged him.

That was when their son decided to make his presence known. He started bellowing so loudly that he could be heard on deck. Tai Haung rolled his eyes and shot Elizabeth a grin.
“His Lordship is calling.” He commented. Elizabeth laughed and taking Will’s hand led him down to her cabin. Will inched into the room slowly, his eyes glued to the crib set next to her bed. He stood above his son and looked down at him with a look of wonderment in his eyes. Elizabeth smiled and leant her head on his shoulder.
“What’s his name?” Will asked. Elizabeth cocked her head to one side.
“James.” She replied. Then shooting him a smile she bent and scooped James up into her arms. The baby took a deep breath and bawled louder. Elizabeth shushed him and with a small smile handed her son to his father.

As soon as James settled in his father’s arms he stopped his crying. He looked up at him with inquisitive brown eyes and his head cocked to one side that Will recognised from his mother. He smiled and James smiled back. Then a small hand reached out and clutched at one of Will’s fingers. Will offered his finger and the baby clutched at it with a delightful gurgle. Then with a smile he raised it to his mouth and bit down. Hard.
“Ow!” Will yelped. The baby giggled and flailed his arms around. Will laughed and sat down on the floor. James struggled and Will set him down. James laughed again before crawling away as fast as he could. Elizabeth laughed as Will scooped his son off the floor and tickled his belly. James squealed with delight and writhed on the floor. Then he sat up and held out his arms. Will picked him up and James nestled his head where Will’s neck and shoulder met. He sighed contentedly and sucked his thumb. Will turned to Elizabeth and shrugged.

After a minute James fell asleep again, exhausted by his activities. Will crossed the room in two strides and carefully placed his son in his crib. James stirred slightly when he left his fathers arms. Will straightened up and turned to his wife. She held out her arms, much like James had done and he stepped into them. They sat on the bed and he stroked her hair as she rested her head on his shoulder.
“How is it?” she asked, Will sighed and closed his eyes.
“Hard.” He replied. “I miss you everyday.” He hugged her closer to him and planted a kiss on her forehead. “I’m coping, but what I can’t get out of my head is the look of fear on the face when they see me. They hate me for what I’m about to do.” He sighed again and with his free hand wiped his eyes. Elizabeth wished that she could comfort him and say something to make it all better, but there are some things that words couldn’t heal. Instead she kissed his cheek and laid her head on his chest in a silent reassurance that things would improve.

They stayed in this manner for many minutes exchanging small talk, both knowing that they didn’t have long. Even though she knew Elizabeth still felt cheated when Tai Huang came to the door to tell them that Will was needed back onboard The Dutchman. With a sigh Will heaved himself up. Elizabeth clung to him tightly.
“I have to go.” He whispered. She shook her head.
“I don’t want you to.” He tilted her face up to look at him and kissed her deeply.
“I’ll see you soon.” He promised. Then he kissed her again and with a smile went to look at his son. He bent down and kissed the boys forehead. James stirred and opened his eyes. He blinked sleepily at his father before smiling and gurgling softly. Will smoothed the hair back from his forehead and kissed him. James giggled softly before sleep overtook him and he closed his eyes. Reluctantly Will straightened and turned to Elizabeth, the tears were pouring silently down her face as she smiled. He wound an arm round her waist and escorted her onto the deck. He looked at his ship before turning back to her.
“I love you,” he said, looking deep into her eyes. “Always.” He rested his forehead against hers and closed his eyes. After one last kiss he smiled.
“Keep a weather eye on the horizon.” He held her hand tightly. And then he was gone. Elizabeth ran to the side of the ship and watched as the Dutchman turned and sailed away. After a moment it dived under the surface of the water, taking her husband with it. She tried to control the tears that poured down her cheeks but couldn’t. Tai Haung came to stand next to her. After a moments silence he slipped an arm around her shoulder.
“He’s a good man.” He said. Elizabeth nodded.
“The best.” She wiped her eyes and straightened up. Time to get back to work. She clapped her hands and ordered the crew to set sail. She cast one look back at the water before turning and striding away. The Empress sailed away leaving only the remains of the shipwreck floating on the waves of the ocean.

Please comment and I hope you enjoy it!

Ah, fair tears at the heart strings. Nice to think they at least saw each other now and then, as opposed to a 10 year absence.

Typical Will, responsible and caring and how nice for him to see his infant son.

Thanks for the lovely story.

cheers
Luna

That's a cute story! Very homey and warm. I liked how Will also performed his task with gentle seriousness, which is his character isn't it? Thank you for posting

Father and Son (Sequel to One Year): POTC complete (Youth)

Here is the sequel to One Year, set about five years after. I hope you like it, it's basically some happy family meeting. Hope you like it!

Title: Father and Son (Sequel to One Year)
Author: Pirate-x-Girls
Disclaimer: All characters except James Turner and ideas belong to Disney
Rating: Youth
Category: Set post AWE
Characters: James Turner, Elizabeth, Will, Tai Huang, Jack (letter)
Genre: Romance
Summary: James is seven and about to meet his father properly for the first time.

James saw the shipwreck first, he hollered with excitement and pointed. Elizabeth looked up from the sail she was mending and smiled. She stood up and went over to where her son was standing.
“What do we do now?” he asked excitedly. She laughed.
“We wait.” She replied.

They waited, James fidgeted every few seconds, Elizabeth stood deathly still. Her heart pounding. They’d been chasing shipwrecks for near on five years now and every time Will had been and gone by the time they got there. Not this time though. Elizabeth couldn’t help the smile that played on her lips.

Eventually with a roar and splash of sea spray The Flying Dutchman emerged triumphantly from the water. Elizabeth heard James gasp beside her; he’d never seen the ship before. It was an intimidating structure, powerful and majestic. As the two of them watched the ship sailed closer. They could hear the faint shouts of people on deck. James’ grin broadened as he craned his neck to see what was happening.

Onboard The Flying Dutchman Will watched with a smile as his ship sailed closer to the shipwreck. He had known from the moment that the ship had surfaced that she was close. He turned his gaze to the ship that was floating alongside the shipwreck. He recognised The Empress from the last time that he had seen her. His eyes, now sharpened since his time as Captain were able to pick out two figures leaning against the railings. He smiled again and closed his eyes.

Elizabeth watched with excitement as Will materialised on the ship. The men that were dying looked up at him with a wary respect. Word had spread that The Dutchman had changed hands but people still didn’t know what to expect from the new captain. As the two of them watched Will addressed each of the men, some of them were loaded into one boat and escorted back to the ship immediately, the others Will talked to a while longer. He finished by shaking each of their hands and clapping them on the back. Then these men were taken to another rowboat and then they were slowly rowed back to The Dutchman.

Elizabeth gripped the railing so hard that her knuckles turned white. Will turned and fixed his gaze on them both. Then he disappeared.

Will appeared behind them silently and watched with amusement at they waited. He leant back against the far rail and chewed on a fingernail while they both wildly cast their gazes round for him.

James cast his eyes round and they fixed on his father. With a cry of excitement he turned all the way and ran towards him. Will opened his arms and James jumped into them, the force of his jump caused Will to step back and almost fall off the ship, he put James down and he looked over his son proudly.
“You’ve grown.” He said. James laughed and hugged him again. Will smiled and looked over his shoulder at Elizabeth who stood watching them from the other side of the ship. He raised an eyebrow and opened his arms. She ran into them and clasped him tightly. He kissed her head and stroked her back lightly. When she moved up to kiss him James cleared his throat, she looked back at him.
“Can you do that when I’m not here?” he said. Elizabeth looked shocked and Will laughed out loud.
“He’s as forward as his mother.” He laughed before ruffling James’s hair. James giggled and ducked out of the way.
“What you don’t like that?” Will asked. James shook his head. His father let Elizabeth go before taking a step towards his son. James giggled again before running off. A small smile stretched Wills lips and he disappeared, he appeared right in front of James and in one move had scooped him up into his arms. James laughed and pummelled Will’s chest.
“No fair!” he squealed. “You cheated!” Will grinned at Elizabeth.
“Pirate!” was his reply; he let James go and slung an arm round his shoulder.
“So has your mother been teaching you how to fight?” he asked. James nodded. Then he ran off and fetched his sword from his cabin. Elizabeth stepped forward intending to protest about a sword fight but as Will drew his sword she saw the boyish glee in his eyes and knew that he would keep their son safe.

When James returned he faced Will and drew the sword. Will ran his sword along his sons listening to the harsh sound of metal on metal. then he took a step back and raised an eyebrow.
“Ready?” he asked. James swallowed and nodded. He swung at Will’s left side, away from the sword meaning to catch him of guard, but Will brought his sword round and blocked the strike he pushed away and came back with a counter attack, aiming low for James’s legs. James went with him and intercepted, Will smiled and pushed back a few steps. He danced on the balls of his feet and watched to see what James would do. Using his size to his advantage James made to dodge to Will’s left but at the last moment feinted to the right. It as only a quick sword hand change that Will was able to stop the sword piercing his right thigh. He smiled at James and sliding the swords up and round brought them back to the middle. Then he proceeded to deliver a series of well placed blows to break James’s defences. James managed to block the first few attacks but soon his father’s superior skill got the better of him. With a loud CLANG! The sword shot from his hand and buried itself deep into the wood of the deck and stayed there quivering. Will lowered his sword and grinned cheekily.
“I win!” he proclaimed. James laughed.
“I’m seven!” he protested.
“That’s right Will, he is only seven.” Elizabeth joined in. Will leant on his sword and looked at them both. For a moment he didn’t speak he just stood looking at the two of them. His family, his life. James looked puzzled, but Elizabeth knew what he was doing. He was taking as much as he could of them in. she looked over her shoulder and called to Tai Haung who stood a little way away pretending to do work but really watching them. She bent and whispered in James’s ear. He looked up at her and smiled. He hugged his father once before running off to join Tai Haung. With a smile Elizabeth took Will to her cabin and closed the door behind them.

Will looked around, it had changed in the six years that he had been gone, the crib had gone and had been replaced by a large ornate desk. Spread over the desks were piles of maps and other lists. The top most of these was a letter. With a frown Will picked it up and scanned through it:

Dear Elizabeth and whelp junior (it read)

I hope that you are both well and things are going well. In response to young James’s last question, yes I am still Captain of the Pearl. So there! I caught sight of your dearly beloved’s ship the other day. We were sailing within a few miles of a shipwreck and saw it diving under. I can’t believe it’s been nearly eight years. My, my time does fly when you’re having fun! Barbossa sends his regards. He would have written a letter but the man is a) stupid and can’t write and b) locked in the brig for trying to kill me with a telescope as we confiscated his sword and pistol when he started sleepwalking and going on mad rampages with then in the middle of the night, nearly blew my head off in the middle of the night. (not quite sure if he was actually sleepwalking that time!). Old man is going senile! Keep safe and see you soon!

Regards
Captain Jack Sparrow

Will replaced the letter and turned to see Elizabeth watching him. he indicated the letter.
“You’ve seen Jack then?” he asked casually. Elizabeth stepped up next to him and nodded.
“He pops by from time to time, you know Jack though, never stays long.” She pulled him away from the desk and wound her arms round his neck.
“But I don’t want to talk about Jack, I want to talk about you.” she smiled. Will returned the smile and slipped his arms round her waist, pulling her closer.
“Seen anybody we know?” she asked. Will frowned as he thought.
“You remember Sri Sumbhajee, the pirate lord with the high voice and body guards who did all the talking for him?” he said. Elizabeth giggled as she remembered the old pirate. She hadn’t seen him since the battle even though she had visited Shipwreck Cove on a number of occasions as her role of Pirate King demanded. She nodded. Will smiled again.
“Well he was finally shot by one of his body guards who had had enough of talking for him and shot him in the chest. When I came to take him I asked him the question I’m charged to ask everyone. ‘serve in my crew etc…’ he looked at me, smiled and then squeaked. ‘No thank you Captain Turner. There are plenty of old friends waiting to greet me on the other side.’ It would have been touching if his voice hadn’t made me want to laugh.” Will finished and the smile faded as he recalled all the people he had sent to the abyss in the eight years he had been captain. Elizabeth saw the haunted look in his eyes and kissed him. Drawing him back. He didn’t respond and when she pulled back she saw tears shinning in his eyes.
“Some of them were younger than James.” He whispered. “They were so scared, they begged me, pleaded to make them better. And all I could do is offer them death.” He pulled away from her and walked to the wall. He wiped his eyes and took a deep breath. Her heart broke as she watched him, she wished she could take his burden from him, but fate had given him this job and only he could fulfil it.

Eventually he turned to face her and she saw the tears had stopped. He gave her a weak smile and took her in his arms again, he dipped his head and kissed her neck
“I’m sorry, I never meant for you to see me like that.” He mumbled between kisses. She took his face between her hands and looked deep into his eyes.
“It’s ok, it proves your still human that you feel that way.” She kissed him and this time he responded. His arms wound tighter round her, reluctant to let her go. Her hands roamed his back and shoulders. As her hands went to the fastenings of his shirt he stiffened. She pulled back and looked at him with a question in her eyes. Will was looking around, his eyes alert. He closed them and when he opened them he sighed.
“I have to go, there’s a shipwreck just off the coast of Devon.” He pulled her up for a deep kiss, she melted against him, taking as much of him as she could. Reluctantly he let her go smiled as he made for the door.

They stepped into the sunshine. Tai Haung and James saw them emerge and made their way over. Tai Haung bowed to Will,
“Captain Turner, a pleasure to meet you.” he said. Will grasped his hand and then squatted so he was eye level with his son. The boy’s eyes were wide and brimmed with tears. Will pulled him into a hug and squeezed him.
“I’m proud of you.” he whispered. James kissed his cheek before pulling back shyly. Will laughed. “Now you take care of your mother and make sure she stays out of trouble.” He said. William nodded and saluted. Will gave him a pat on the shoulder and straightened up. He beckoned to Elizabeth and she accompanied him to the rail, he looked at his ship and pulled her close for a hug. She rested her head against his chest and sighed. the emptiness of his chest matched the feeling in her own heart. She kissed him once, when he pulled back she looked deep into his dark eyes.
“I’ll wait.” She promised. He smiled.
“Never doubted you, ever.” He replied. Then he closed his eyes and disappeared.

She couldn’t bear to watch him sail away so she stumbled to her cabin and threw herself down on the bed and wept, months and years of frustration released in a torrent of tears. He was gone. She heard the door and James’s arms went round her. She looked up at her son, the living reminder of a husband and pulled him close, tears pouring down both their faces.
“We’ll get through this,” she said. “We’ll get through this.”

Enjoy and please comment, I love hearing your feedback!

Ah, sweet. The interplay between father and son is lovely - I can well imagine Will being a fantastic father. Heartbreaking that she can only see him now and then (I'd almost be tempted to start blowing up ships just to get him to come to ME! - Nah just kidding)

Poor Will, so torn. Well done. Enjoyed it.

cheers

Hey this is great. Love that you have given them some time - even though it is so brief. The letter from Jack was great...am echoing Nuit here on that. Return address please.
