Indeed you may Ki. Every day is a new beginning and it's up to you what you do with it. The future is bright.

Title: Scarred Heart in Hand
Author: Ki
Category: Original
Type: Poem,
Rating: R
Warnings: none
Summary: Continuing in the 2010 time of change theme. All around me I am watching my friends deciding to begin things, to end things or to acknowledge what is real and important. Though it may seem impossible, who has the right to say that? Things are different from what they were. The hurts of 2009 seem to fading, there is a sense of something that is empowering so many people. I am not quite sure what it is about this New Year but it does seem different.......

Wounds that we cannot see
The ragged edges define us
Not as we once were
That is gone, done
No going back to what was
To dwell on that, is despair

The broken bits in me
I cannot fix
Nor can you
This scarred heart
That I hand you
Will you hold it gently

Knowing that it is fragile
And that I cannot be
Anything but who I am
These twisted pieces
Are real, solid
They are a part of everything

Not to be cast aside
Or ignored in their pain
They are dark
Difficult to look at
Heartbreakingly awful
In their sharp hurt

No endings or beginnings
These ties hold fast
Though it would be easier
If they did not
A future with no past
No shadows to fear

This is so lovely Ki. Full of sorrow but some hope and trust too. You have a beautiful way of expressing yourself. Thanks for sharing this intimate part of who you are.

Love you

Am sorry for only just finding this thread Ki although I have read many of your Kelly poems before in another thread. Was thrilled to find these and read today!
The 2010 poems are spot on, loved both of them but especially 'I Am' so thank you for sharing your words with us

Thank you. I am not sure that you should be encouraging me though.....have a number of pieces written last year and the year before which I am now contemplating sharing. Though you might all decide to send the men in white coats.....while some of these things are connected to me others are for other people, friends, people I have met, books I have read, or a song that I hear on the radio and one line starts a whole poem. Is odd what can set it all off.....

sorry it has taken a while to comment- have been thinking, about how we come to terms with things, how that changes through our lives, what things travel with us, and what they mean, how we tell one story and then that changes. Is a fantastically poignant poem Ki, almost too much. Brilliant as ever.

Title: Conversations Within
Author: Ki
Category: Original
Type: Poem,
Rating: R
Warnings: none
Summary: There is a man down where I live that is homeless. He is the most tidy homeless man I have ever seen. Every morning I see him walking, I am not sure where he goes to but at the same time he passes the same places. I drive past him and wonder where he goes. When I come home at night he is heading back. He talks to himself. I have seen him in the village. Sometimes he is just chatting, smiling and other times he is angry arguing with himself. I always wonder about him. He seems well liked, gets coffee from all the different places and just does his thing.

I will walk
The same road
At the same time
Though I have no place
I am needing to be

I rise and dress
Not new thes clothes
Nor even mine
But I am tidy
For I have pride

I see you
The same people
Traveling your lives
Brushing against mine
Wondering if you notice me

The pieces of who I am
We do not fit
Different people
In the one body
The one mind

I do not like some
The angry one
Who argues
I wish he would leave me
For he is upsetting

I much prefer the gentle
The kind one
Who helps old ladies
Smiles at children
And stops for dogs

These voices of mine
They speak out loud
Convincing, fighting
And I must answer
A long day of conversation

And at the same time
I will turn for home
For this is what I do
This routine
It keeps them at bay

Keeps me sane
For I know who I am
Even if my seperate selves
They do not
I shout them down

For this is my life
And I will return
To the park
By the sea
It is time for home

Ki this actually brought tears to my eyes and what a great way to celebrate someone's life even though you don't know him personally but just the way he has impacted on yours. Thank you for sharing this one.

It reminds me of an elderly man I see every time I go to town, he is everywhere-always walking (he is not homeless) every day. He is very fit and used to cycle all the way past our place and back to town through the huge hills in a large circle. I've always wanted to know his life story, one day I may stop and ask him and hope he would like to tell me, as we have all seen him for years.

I agree with you Ki, this year is definitely different. I hope it gets brighter and brighter for you.

Such a simple but powerful statement, how often do we find ourselves trying to be something that we are not just to please others, only to cause ourselves more heartache.

'Conversations Within' is very thought-provoking, I was just reading this thing about homeless people, how we often just avert our eyes and pretend they don't exist or make instant judgements about why they are in the position they are rather than seeing them as fellow human beings. There but for the grace of God go I...

Thank you for sharing these Ki.

Have not commented for a reason up until now. Took me about three attempts to read Sacred Heart in Hand - simply didn't want to visit it I guess. Very powerful and very close to what a few of us have been going through I think. I am also trying to look only forward at the moment, this kind of took me back and I don't want to go there. Not being melodramatic, just honest. Your writing is raw, powerful, succinct and personal - the emotions come through so strongly that it can be confronting at times. But that is a huge compliment and by no means a criticism. As amazing as ever Ki.

Conversations Within took me back to my city days - I was always adopting a homeless man depending on where I worked. Saw them everyday so you got to know them - pass a few words of cheer on a morning, bring them a cup of coffee or easter egg etc. now and then. They just loved to be brought into the real world for a few moments, to be acknowledged I think, but seemed content with their lot, which seems weird to say as I know beyond a doubt that most are not and are there by circumstance and not their choosing, but the ones I knew were neat and tidy and had their routines and enjoyed a conversation. Played a round of cards once on my way to work with a couple of my regulars. Even got a goodbye hug from one when I told him I was leaving my place of employment once. He was a sweetie. But it's not all happy and romantic, it's bloody tough and awful for them and your heart aches for some of them. And some of them are down right scary. This is a wonderful ode to them Ki, I really enjoyed it. I doubt that many stop and wonder, or give them a moment of their time, or care at all. It takes a special heart to do that, and a better one to capture that and write about it so beautifully.

One of your best for me. Thanks.

Tc I hope that you have that conversation one day. It is amazing how people touch your lives and they probably don't realise, I find myself making up stories about them, filling in the pieces.

Gem is very wise - we can only be who we are and we are also the only ones that can change ourselves and that would be because we want to.

Luna I know where you are coming from. Though I also feel very optimistic for everyone this year, no real proof of why yet but the last couple of years I was trying to be where as this time it is just sort of bubbling away in the background.

Title: Elastic
Author: Ki
Category: Original
Type: Poem,
Rating: R
Warnings: none
Summary: Musing on love and how it can change be stretched beyond recognition and still be there. I have lots of people around me who have had huge changes this year and this came out of thoughts after conversations. The prince and the kiss - thanks for that idea Nuit!

I am tied to you
Invisible string
A band of elastic
That snaps me back
Connecting us
Keeping me close

Close but not near
A wall of silence
Thick and high
That cannot be broken
Though I pound at it
Wanting truth

Wanting and fearing
Not knowing the effect
My frailty of spirit
Frightened of endings
But needing more
Than this endless in between

Trapped in this space
Somewhere that is not
A deep sleep
Where is the prince?
Will you waken me?
With one gentle kiss

And is that enough
To fill the spaces
To give me the words
Or will the fear
The doubt
Have me running again

To be snapped back
The elastic that is love
Frayed and stretched
It holds strong
I have not the strength
To lift the scissors

The nature of love... We all have our experiences, some bitter, some sweet, and some both at the same time. On some level we can always relate, no matter how personal it might be, the pain caused by love is universal and all too familiar for most of us. Thank you for sharing this poem Ki.
