National Geographic Beyond the Movie: Conquering Troy

World Premiere of 'Beyond the Movie: Conquering Troy' Explores the
Line between History and Myth

WASHINGTON, April 26 /PRNewswire/ -- It is said to be the greatest love
story ever told and the grandest war epic in history. But how much of the
Trojan War saga is true? Did a Greek queen really fall in love with a Trojan
warrior and run away with him? Did King Agamemnon launch 1,000 ships across
the Aegean Sea in an effort to win her back? Did Paris, Helen, Achilles --
and even the city of Troy itself -- really exist? The upcoming blockbuster
"Troy" starring Brad Pitt and Orlando Bloom is the latest dramatization of
these centuries-old mysteries immortalized by the poet Homer in "The Iliad"
and "The Odyssey."
On Friday, May 7, at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT, just one week before the feature
film opens, join the National Geographic Channel (NGC) for the world premiere
of "Beyond the Movie: Conquering Troy," a one-hour special that combines
ancient storytelling and modern archaeology to explore the truth behind the
legend. The special compares fact and fiction, revealing a complex mystery
even more fantastic than Homer could have imagined.
Featuring expert analysis and dramatic recreations, "Beyond the Movie:
Conquering Troy" travels to Greece and Turkey, unearthing evidence of the
glory and the tragedies of lost civilizations. Visit what many believe are
the ruins of Troy and comb its nine layers for evidence of the Trojan War.
Journey to Agamemnon's great city of Mycenae in Greece and to Moscow for a
rare glimpse of ancient Trojan gold treasure.
"Beyond the Movie: Conquering Troy" tells the tale of an eccentric
businessman Heinrich Schliemann, who would later be heralded as the father of
archaeology. In the mid-19th century, obsessed with proving the veracity of
Homer's epic poems, Schliemann traveled to Greece and Turkey in pursuit of the
lost cities of Mycenae and Troy.
In the process, Schliemann discovered much more, including treasures dated
centuries before the time of the Trojan War. But while he was able to uncover
some remarkable finds, it was not until a century later that researchers and
scientists could confirm that Schliemann had indeed found the legendary city
of Troy.

Well, where's the fairness in that! Now, I don't know if I should wait or just buy it?

I picked up the DVD today and while it's informative and has re-enactments done by National Goegraphic, it has NOTHING on the movie Troy itself. Admittedly, I went ripping through the DVD to see if there was any footage on Troy like they did for RotK but there is nothing. Sorry folks, no Orlando.

What a shame it doesn't have anything on the movie. It does remind me however that I recorded a programme about the city of Troy a while back that started with clips from the film... I must watch that and see what it is like.
