This is just a thought too... since theres so many theories and stuff out there... mamakidd, you gave me a lightbulb moment:::

Do you think that maybe his wardrobe when he returns has anything to do with it? I know that with the COTBP they had no intention of a sequel.. but as the movies progress, you begin to see a darkness in the films. Wills wardrobe changes... in the first movie, hes wearing white. In the last- dark red... then when he returns... white.
Dont know... just throwing it out there. Since theres so many hidden meanings and everything that they end up touching on later with these movies... it could happen I guess.

I've actually thought of that too, pinky, I do believe the wardrobe is symbolic.

I also believe the wardrobe is symbolic. Look how Will and Elizabeth's outfits change, yet Jack and Barbossa do not. In relation, Will and Elizabeth are the character's that change most throughout the series, while Jack in reality doesn't and neither does Barbossa. I do believe colors and wardrobe have a lot to do with the story

I also think Bootstrap would take over, although I recall a Terry post, or maybe it was Ted, anyhow they said much like the president, you don't know it's going to be necessarily but you know they'll be one.

I like your theories about the wardrobe colours, Pinky and Krism. It makes a lot of sense that their clothing would change with their personalities. But since Will comes back in white, and Elizabeth is in a dress when she waits for him on the cliff, does that mean that they will not have anymore adventures and when Will returns, they get on with the life they should've had after PotC 1?

I don't think it means no more adventures. The dress she is wearing is lovely but not at all like the corsets she wore in the first one and he is wearing white symbolizing freedom. I think that's what they both were after. Not really being pirates, although they both seem to have the sea in their blood, but the freedom that the pirates represented and the ability to lead the lives they wanted and that included no social barriers to being together.

But I personally don't think they had any contempt for a life in a house, her in dresses and he even as a blacksmith again, as long as they weren't oppressed. Just my take on it though.

Im glad you guys agree! Krism you made me think... Elizabeth's dress while shes on the hill with her son waiting for Will to come back... its plain though still pretty. It almost insinuates that shes been a mom first and foremost for the last 10 years. What I have to wonder though is that... wasnt she the newly appointed Pirate Lord of Singapore? And then elected Pirate King by herself and Jack? So... would that all mean that she would have either had to do double duty... as a mom and both those other things... or she gave up those roles. Either way... that story is left unanswered...

The wardrobe means so much! I agree Telcontar... the wardrobe throughout the 3 movies symbolizes their changing personalities. How could you go back to the way everything was before though, after knowing and going through what you went through? Once a pirate... always a pirate? What do you guys think?

well it doesn't seem that a Pirate Lord or King has much to do except in times of a meeting of the Brethren Court, or in times of battle. However, I in no way think Elizabeth is just sitting at home, I think she'd sail, possibly have businesses or even attempt a journey to see Will.

Or, maybe it just means she picked something to wear that would be both practical and pretty when seeing her husband for the first time in ten years. She might dress like a warrior the rest of the time for all we know, and have decided she wanted to look feminine to see Will.

I had thought about that! And it does seem like that would be symbolic, after all every thing in film is a desperate attempt at symbolism, especially in Disney movies! Thery're always trying to throw in a bit of symbolic reasoning, and as for a 4th movie, the story would have to be on a par with the first three otherwise there is no point!

Well, I read the complete thread, which is now orphaned for over three years. We know already the fourth part will start in a few days – without Will and Elizabeth.

In June 2007 there were the first gossip both wouldn’t be present in a fourth part. The reasons were unknown at that point of time.

Later it was revealed Keira decided to leave the franchise (nuit pointed out that in December 2007).

Why Orlando had to go was explained differently at first: Some said, he was thrown out of the production, some said he wouldn’t agree that Will should die definitely in a fourth part, some said, he was looking for new challenges. In an article from 2009 it was confirmed, that he left “Pirates” voluntary.

Besides the hints, deeply hidden in AWE, not spoken out or hidden in nebulous, Jack-like answers of Ted or Terry referring to the lore of the FLYING DUTCHMAN, there might be answers out of the production itself.

The gossip, Orlando left the franchise for new challenges seems to be the nearest to his actual personal reasons. In the book “Bring Me That Horizon” from Michael Singer he said: When we talked about the opportunities to make DMC and AWE, I was keen on trying and getting some elements of real character development, which they thought of. I wanted to show Will less the earnest and upright young guy and to see in the borders of the story a darker side in his character. (Retranslated from the passage in the book. When I’m back home, I will give the correct quotation)

We know, the roles Orlando accepted since he left POTC were darker ones – whether in SFD, TGD or in 3M. I think, after playing Legolas, the “pure” Will and Balian, he feared to be nailed to the beaming, flawless hero – besides the fact that “bad boys have more fun”, as he said in the first interview for ET about 3M.

Okay, why do I haul off that much? The open question, whether the curse of being the FLYING DUTCHMAN‘s Captain is definitely lifted or not, when Will returns after ten years and Elizabeth is present, may be a back door for all participants. It provides the possibility for Keira and Orlando to come back, if they want to, but also the opportunity for authors and producer to take them back or to let them off for eternity. There might be a day they wish to return from their new challenges to the familiar crew and theme.

@ (supposed) rift between Orlando and Jerry Bruckheimer: As Orlando himself said, he wanted to show darker sides of Will Turner. If there was a rift, as some supposed, this may be ignited by Orlando’s purpose. Authors and producer didn’t follow his suggestion completely. The mutiny of Will isn’t shown in the film – to present a fight against the Jack-loyal crew (Gibbs, Cotton, Marty, Pintel, Ragetti and Monkey Jack) would have destroyed enduring the picture of the flawless hero and loyal friend Will Turner, who is risking his own life in protection of his comrades. Only the result found the way to the screen. Darker sides do not suit Will Turner, although they might make him more real.

I think, authors and producer told him that; I think, he was “not amused” and decided to leave and try to get “darker” roles otherwise... After Orlando and Keira decided not to be part of a further part, the staff decided not to show the scenes, which might explain the duty lasts for ten years and is lifted off, if a true loving woman is awaiting the captain...

I’m aware of this being pure speculation and hope, the mods will consult this.
