Oh Ki, as you know, I don't "do" poetry (other than silly stuff), mainly because I don't 'get it' (I'm a pleb, I know) but that was just touching and powerful and yes, I actually got it! Well done. A wonderful lament for what should have been and wasn't - loved the Justice para and this:

Quote:
Death
Now as it was always
Wasted lives and hopes
still we suffer
Children of Ireland
Deep despair and probably struck a chord with me, because I'm big on hope - and I could sense none in those final words.

Excellent Ki.
cheers
Luna

Thanks everyone. It must have been just hell for them, thinking that they were going to something better and it all being the same or even worse...

I am one quarter irish though it is something that I have long ignored, that and the other quarter which is scottish was never a part of my heritage that I wished to think about. But the Hogmany story actually changed that. Made me realise that I could not hold those that had come to NZ responsible for the actions of others. Was a very important recognition of who I was and also who they were.

Oddly enough my Irish and Scottish ancestors had a much better time of it in NZ than what my Bohemian ones did....

Bohemian? What are your other "ingredients" Ki? Scots, Irish & ??

Wow, fantastic that something as fun and exciting and encompassing as the Hogmanay Challenge should turn out to be so insightful for you as well. That's just lovely.

The other is Bohemian but is the race rather than the lifestyle. Bohemia was in what is now Germany/Czechoslovakia. My Dad is full blooded. I am sure that your husband knows of the wild Bohemians from Puhoi, I am one of that mob.

Title: Never Gone, Never Forgotten
Author: Ki
Category: Original
Type: Poem,
Rating: R
Warnings: none
Summary: Nuit and I spent a morning in Derry in Northern Ireland and visited the Bogside, the site of Bloody Sunday, the H Block memorial, the Free Derry sign, the Murals painted by the Bogside artists, and the Museum of Free Derry. It was a stunning visual and emotional experience and I have yet to shake the ongoing effects. I have jotted down a number of bits and pieces and this is the first. The portion in italics is part of a Catholic prayer "Hail Holy Queen". I realise that this is a bit of a sensitive part of history and no offense is intended this is my personal experience and feelings only.

There is memory here
In soil, steel and pavement
Grass so very green beneath me
All so still now
But in my heart I feel
Breathless pain, emotion choking

Not my memories
Yet felt just the same
Eyes tearing as I stand witness
Bloody Sunday
Ripping at my soul
And tears fall that are mine yet not

For though I do not know you
My spirit feels your pain
My prayers the same
My church is yours
And yet I have been free
To live as I was born

Not of Ireland but still of Irish
I feel you fear, despair, Anger
And I stand humbled
Before the beauty on your walls
Beauty tinged with blood
Art cloaked with helplessness

“To thee do we cry
poor banished children of Eve”

Whispered in my mind
Words said one thousand times
The meaning now as never before
I clench my hands against your pain.

Very moving words there Ki, I love how you have brought past and present together in the strong emotions you feel through your words.

You always make me take time to stop and think. No other poet has EVER done that. Well possible one or two (The Highwayman being one...)

Well done as ever. You're very talented.

Thank you for sharing yet another gem.

cheers

Ki darling,I´m amazed by your talent, and nicely surprised about the fact that I understand soooo well your poem, can´t help to have in mind U2´s "Bloody Sunday"....and that pray sounds so familiar to me,(I´m not a believer, but I was raised as a catholic,as nearly every spanish people of my age...)That trip to Derry must be quite touching,no?
Congrats for your talent, and thanks for sharing

Oh... That one made my heart ache, Ki. I can't even pick out a particular line for emphasis. It is all extraordinary and powerful.

Wow.

Thank you ladies. Luna it is always wonderful when people want to read what one is writing. Lola I am glad that you connected with it, and yes that is a very familiar prayer for Catholics practicing or not. Lanta it is that sort of place where your chest feels tight and raw.

I am hoping that Nuit might chuck some pictures on the murals in here when she gets back. You know how bad I am with pictures

Title: Always
Author: Ki
Category: Original
Type: Poem,
Rating: R
Warnings: none
Summary: About loss and memories, with images of Balian and Elizabeth in my head and friends who have lost their partners too soon and the loss of loved ones that I think we have all experienced in our lives.

Tangled memories
Half heard whispers
I wake
Alone, yet not
Everywhere I sense you

Sense is not touch
nor taste or warmth
In my dreams
I feel your breath
Your fingers in mine

But in wakefulness
I am alone
Yearning, searching
Wanting you, needing you
Missing you, always

Really beautiful Ki. You have captured perfectly the loneliness and longing and sheer pain of missing someone you need.

Just lovely - the way a memory is never quite enough, however clear it is. Thanks for posting this.

I can't quite put into words the thoughts that I have because they are all tangled up with celebrating memories and truly feeling them, and recognising loss at the same time. It IS like dread and welcoming and wanting to move on all at once, I wake up alone, as Amy said

I love this poem Ki, and is one of those that I am positive i will return to many times

Hmm, strange I should read this today...and they don't have to be dead for you to feel this, just simply beyond your reach.

A little too powerful for me right now - but so true.

Thanks Ki.

cheers

Ki, Thank you for sharing all these emotion filled poems.

They are all wonderful. I already mention to you a couple of my favorites and now that I have had a chance to read the rest, I must mention your latest addition "Always". I can't put into words my feelings about how that one touched me. So true, so real.

Kat

Thanks for reading and commenting Kat. That last one seemed to have something that everyone recognised. I did write it quite a while ago, just took a little while to get posted...

Title: I Am
Author: Ki
Category: Original
Type: Poem,
Rating: R
Warnings: none
Summary: There seems to be something significant about 2010. Excuse the grammar. Is just how it came out.

I cast this aside
This burden
That I have carried
Struggled under
Wept For

I cast it away
To begin again
For all is now new
Grief and despair
They are from before

The page is blank
and I may write
the story that I wish
for what is done
Is done

In the past
No longer of mine
But gone
Washed from me
From my soul

What I am
and who I shall be
Is to be revealed
and I choose
Joy and Love

This is my time
no more tears
no more despair
For I am me
and I am strong
